With support from the apparel industry, the retail apparel trade and several trade associations, the Hohensteiner Institute, Bönnigheim, and Human Solutions GmbH of Kaiserslautern initiated and jointly headed the representative serial measurement program SizeGERMANY. From July 1st 2007, around 12,000 men, women and children were measured using ultra-modern body scanners.
SizeGERMANY is the first serial measurement program in Germany which uses cutting-edge body scanning technology to measure a representative cross-section of the entire population. In just a few minutes, over 70 different body dimensions are acquired - earlier measuring programs only acquired a maximum of 25.
SizeGERMANY updates body dimension tables, with the result that the garment sizes now correspond to the proportions of today's human being - and manufacturers can optimize their cut designs.
To provide an even better fit, SizeGERMANY will also be able to evaluate typical body shapes - because an 80-year old woman and a 25-year old may both have the same size - but they certainly have different shapes.
SizeGERMANY also incorporates the background information of the measured test persons - in future, this will enable manufacturers to selectively address demands for style, design and fit.
