Review of the MyNet joint research project

In May of 2002, the MyNet project was initiated under the auspices of the Human Solutions Company: the objective was to create a transparent, cross-company information and communications platform for the apparel industry, within the framework of the cooperative project promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and by the project sponsor, the Dept. of Production and Manufacturing Technologies, Research Center Karlsruhe (PTKA).

The BMBF supported MyNet within the framework of the Research for the Production of Tomorrow project. Eight experienced partners from the science, technology, apparel and trade sectors cooperated on MyNet to conceive a cross-company solution and put it to the test during a pilot phase.

Human Solutions' project partners at a glance:

  • University of Bremen, Dept. of Information Technology (Research)

  • Hohenstein Institute for Clothing Physiology (clothing and textile research)

  • IPF Institut for Product Life Research (R&D)

  • Tuchfabrik Willy Schmitz, (supplier)

  • Odermark Bekleidungswerke GmbH (manufacturer)

  • Rieder-Modem (manufacturer)

  • Cove & Co (retailer)

Towards the end of the active project phase, Dr. Rainer Trieb, MyNet project leader at Human Solutions, explained the project’s objective as follows: "Trading with customer-specific products requires an optimal process chain between retailer, manufacturer and supplier. Each of these must be able to access the necessary data quickly and comfortably - and this places the highest demands on the distributed provision of information and on logistics. That's why MyNet has been conceived as a transparent, internet-based platform, which takes all the procedures in sales, production and procurement into account."

The most important results were presented to retailers, manufacturers and suppliers as early as May of 2005, at the Head Offices of the Human Solutions Company in Kaiserslautern. MyNet has now officially been terminated with the publication of the report.
