Ergonomics Software RAMSIS has new features!

tecmath releases RAMSIS 3.8! An expanded range of functions and simplified movement calculation are the distinguishing features of this new version

The newest version of the successful ergonomics software, RAMSIS 3.8, has been available since the end of May. New features are posture models for front and rear seat passengers in cars as well as pilot models for aircraft cockpit design. The new functions for interior design focus on the analysis of belts and seating systems. One of the functions, the “Task Wizard”, which takes over the role of Task Assistant, supports the complex process of movement definition. It is aimed at facilitating the introduction of customer-specific analysis standards. Improved geometrical functions, expansion of the SAE module and an API interface that enables integration of additional functions into the program all help to make the user’s day-to-day tasks simpler.

More than 70% of car manufacturers worldwide use the RAMSIS CAD tool. “We had many intensive discussions with our customers before conceiving and designing the new functions”, says Dr. Hartmut Speyer, Head of the RAMSIS Development Department. “Nowadays it’s a matter of course for us that the design of a machine should be oriented towards the needs of humans and not vice-versa”, he explains. “That’s why we don’t base further development on what might be technically possible – we set our criteria by what our users really want and need”.

The new functions of RAMSIS 3.8 at a glance -

·Enhanced geometrical functions for creating objects (dots, lines, surfaces) or editing them (translating, rotating, trimming).

·Support for defining movement tasks is provided by an Assistant (“Task Wizard”), which leads the user step-by-step through the definition process.

·Enhanced functionality in Motion Tracking – customer-imported data on movement sequences in and around the vehicle can now be transferred to the corresponding movements of the RAMSIS manikin much more efficiently.

·Expansion of the existing SAE module - at the touch of a button, this now offers the user functions for checking that the vehicle design concept complies with important SAE Norms (SAE = Society of Automotive Engineers).

·Safety belts - Enhanced safety belt calculation takes anchor kinematics and geometry fully into account and a new module eBTD (electronic beltfit test device) has been added for quality control of the belt design with regard to safety aspects.

·Completion of the project “RAMSIS sitzt” (“sits and fits”) - modeling and simulation of the interaction of a seat with human posture.

·Enhancement of the integration interface (API) based on tcl/tk-Standards. Now users can easily create a user interface to self-implemented functions.

Two new posture models with separate licensing are also included with the RAMSIS 3.8 version - the pilot model was conceived for aircraft cockpit design, while the car passenger model allows the simulation of front and rear seat passengers in vehicles, once again opening up additional application fields for RAMSIS.
